I watched in horror as even more people try and pack into the already packed subway car. The air was already humid as hell, and wreaked of body odor. I could feel my throat start to close up, and my heart beat quicken. Deep breaths,I reminded myself, trying to keep my claustrophobia under control. Normally I would avoid the subway at all costs, but I needed to get across town to my apartment. It was too dark to take the skyway, and I didn't have enough money for a taxi. The subway car slid to a stop again, and I shot out of that thing like a bat out of hell. I was still five blocks from my apartment, but I needed to get out. I quickly ascended to the street, and was instantly reminded why I hate this city. Cops, standing in a group, chatting. He hurried past them, keeping his head down. He'd seen people get beat up and arrested for a lot less. I continued onward, lost in thought, until I reached my apartment building. I keyed the door, then went in.
